Terms & Conditions
Effective September 11, 2026
These Terms & Conditions govern purchases, made-to-order work, commissions, and other transactions with J.S. Made. Additional terms may appear in a quote, invoice, order confirmation, project agreement, or other written communication for a specific project. Where project-specific written terms conflict with these general Terms & Conditions, the project-specific terms will control for that project.
Works Offered
J.S. Made produces original solid hardwood furniture in three primary forms: available one-of-one works, made-to-order works based on established J.S. Made designs, and select commissioned or collaborative projects.
Available works are sold individually and may not be reproduced exactly. Made-to-order works begin from established J.S. Made designs and may allow approved variations in material, finish, or dimensions. Commissioned and collaborative work is reviewed individually and accepted at the studio’s discretion.
Pricing
All prices are shown in U.S. dollars unless otherwise stated.
Published prices, including “pricing begins at” amounts, reflect the scope described on the applicable page and may change based on material, dimensions, finish, delivery, installation, project requirements, or other approved specifications.
Applicable sales tax and other legally required charges will be collected where required.
If an obvious pricing, specification, or listing error occurs, J.S. Made may correct the error before fulfillment. If payment has already been collected, the client will be given the opportunity to approve the corrected terms or receive a refund for the affected unfulfilled order.
Orders and Acceptance
Submission of an inquiry does not create an order or require J.S. Made to accept a project.
Orders for available works are subject to availability and successful payment authorization.
Made-to-order and commissioned projects are not considered accepted for production until the applicable scope, specifications, pricing, payment requirements, and other project terms have been confirmed in writing.
J.S. Made reserves the right to decline a project before acceptance where the requested work, timeline, budget, technical requirements, or other conditions are not appropriate for the studio.
Deposits and Payment
Payment requirements for made-to-order and commissioned work are established in the applicable quote, invoice, or project agreement.
Production may not begin until the required deposit or payment has been received and any required design or specification approvals have been provided.
Deposits, material purchases, design work, fabrication already completed, and other project costs may be non-refundable where expressly stated in the applicable project terms and permitted by law.
Any remaining balance must be paid according to the agreed payment schedule and may be required before shipment, delivery, or installation.
Design Approval and Changes
Clients are responsible for reviewing dimensions, materials, finishes, drawings, renderings, and other specifications submitted for approval.
Once a design or specification has been approved, requested changes may require additional design work, materials, labor, pricing, or production time.
No modification to an approved project is effective until confirmed by J.S. Made in writing.
Changes requested after production begins may not always be possible.
Natural Material Variation
Solid hardwood is a natural material. Grain, color, figure, knots, mineral streaking, texture, and other characteristics vary between boards and are not considered defects.
Natural variation between samples, photographs, renderings, previous works, and the finished piece should be expected.
Dimensions and Handmade Tolerances
Published dimensions describe the intended overall size of a work.
Because each piece is fabricated and finished individually, minor dimensional variation may occur.
Project-specific dimensions confirmed in writing before production take precedence over general website specifications.
Photographs and Renderings
Photographs and design renderings are provided to communicate form, proportion, material direction, construction language, and overall design intent.
Wood tone, grain, figure, finish appearance, and color may vary because of natural material differences, lighting, photography, rendering conditions, and display settings.
Renderings do not guarantee an exact grain pattern, coloration, or other naturally occurring material characteristic.
Production Timelines
Production timelines for made-to-order and commissioned work are established based on the scope of each project.
Unless expressly guaranteed in writing, production and delivery dates are estimates and may be affected by material availability, approved project changes, carrier conditions, building access, weather, or other circumstances outside the studio’s reasonable control.
If a consumer order cannot be shipped within a promised timeframe, J.S. Made will handle delay notices, consent, cancellation, and refunds as required by applicable law.
Shipping, Delivery and Installation
Shipping, delivery, and installation terms vary according to the work and destination.
Available works from the Balance Side Collection include complimentary U.S. shipping where stated on the website. Larger, made-to-order, commissioned, international, or project-specific works may require separate freight, delivery, handling, or installation charges.
Tracking is provided when applicable.
Additional terms contained on the J.S. Made Shipping & Policies page are incorporated into these Terms & Conditions where applicable.
Site Access and Client Responsibilities
The client is responsible for confirming that the work can be safely delivered to and installed in the intended location.
This includes confirming doorways, elevators, stairs, corridors, loading areas, building restrictions, certificates of insurance, delivery hours, and other access requirements.
Any unusual delivery, installation, or building requirements must be disclosed before delivery is scheduled.
Additional expenses caused by undisclosed site conditions, failed delivery attempts, storage, redelivery, special handling, or access restrictions may be charged separately where permitted and communicated to the client.
Client-Supplied Information
Clients are responsible for the accuracy of measurements, drawings, photographs, site information, intended-use information, and other specifications they provide to J.S. Made.
J.S. Made is not responsible for problems resulting from inaccurate or incomplete client-supplied information except to the extent otherwise required by law or expressly assumed by J.S. Made in writing.
Shipping Damage
Shipments are insured where stated.
Visible shipping damage should be reported to J.S. Made within 48 hours of delivery with clear photographs of the work, packaging, and shipping label.
J.S. Made will review the circumstances and coordinate the appropriate resolution, which may include an insurance claim, repair, replacement, or another appropriate remedy.
Nothing in this section limits rights or remedies that cannot legally be waived.
Returns and Exchanges
Available works are one-of-one, while made-to-order and commissioned works are produced specifically for the applicable order or project.
For that reason, sales are final and J.S. Made does not accept returns or exchanges except where required by law or where J.S. Made separately agrees to a resolution for verified damage, error, or another qualifying issue.
Cancellations
Available works may be cancelled only before shipment unless otherwise required by law.
Cancellation terms for made-to-order and commissioned projects are governed by the applicable quote, invoice, or project agreement.
Amounts already committed to materials, design, fabrication, outside services, or other project costs may be non-refundable where disclosed and permitted by law.
Care and Use
Solid hardwood responds naturally to humidity, temperature, sunlight, moisture, and use.
Clients are responsible for following care instructions provided with the work and for maintaining an appropriate indoor environment.
Damage caused by improper care, standing water, excessive moisture or dryness, direct heat, misuse, impact, unauthorized modification, improper installation, or other conditions outside normal intended use is not considered shipping damage or a material defect.
Intellectual Property and Design Rights
Unless otherwise agreed in writing, J.S. Made retains all intellectual property rights in its furniture designs, drawings, renderings, prototypes, photographs, written materials, construction concepts, and other original creative work.
Purchase of a physical piece transfers ownership of that physical piece only. It does not transfer reproduction rights, design rights, copyrights, or permission to manufacture, reproduce, commercially exploit, or authorize copies of the design.
Project drawings, renderings, and design materials may not be reproduced, manufactured by third parties, or used for commercial production without prior written authorization from J.S. Made.
Photography and Portfolio Use
Unless otherwise agreed in writing, J.S. Made may photograph completed work and use images of its furniture, fabrication process, and completed installations for portfolio, editorial, website, social media, press, archival, and promotional purposes, provided that confidential client information is not intentionally disclosed.
For private residential projects where photography or publication restrictions are required, those restrictions should be agreed in writing before completion of the project.
International Orders
International shipping may be available by inquiry.
Unless otherwise agreed in writing, the client is responsible for applicable import duties, customs charges, destination taxes, brokerage fees, permits, and other destination-specific expenses.
International shipping, insurance, delivery, and installation requirements are confirmed separately before purchase or production.
Availability
Because J.S. Made produces work individually and in limited quantities, availability may change without notice.
An item appearing on the website does not guarantee availability until an order has been accepted and confirmed.
Website Information
J.S. Made makes reasonable efforts to keep website descriptions, prices, dimensions, photographs, availability, and other information accurate.
Minor errors or omissions may occasionally occur. J.S. Made may update or correct website information without prior notice.
Rights That Cannot Be Waived
Nothing in these Terms & Conditions is intended to waive, restrict, or eliminate any consumer right, remedy, warranty, or protection that cannot legally be waived under applicable law.
Governing Law
These Terms & Conditions and transactions with J.S. Made are intended to be governed by the laws of the State of New York, without limiting any mandatory consumer protections that may apply based on the client’s location or applicable law.
Changes to These Terms
J.S. Made may revise these Terms & Conditions from time to time.
The version applicable to a transaction will generally be the version in effect when the applicable order or project is accepted, unless the parties agree otherwise in writing.
